Signs are positive despite early loss

THE Blackwater Basilisks are off to a losing start in their Central Queensland Rugby Union campaign, but captain Robert Coppo was buoyed by his side’s performance against Frenchville on Sunday.
“There was definitely effort there,” Coppo said. “It was not too bad at all.” The Basilisks players’ player award in the 28-10 defeat went to inside centre Gus King.
“He made a heap of breaks; he played really well,” Coppo said.
Although the result was less than ideal, Coppo said with more training in their legs and players returning from injury the Basilisks would improve.
“Obviously we wanted to get the win,” he said.
“We’d only done a week of actual team running.
“We just need to get some backs back on deck.”
He is hopeful they can qualify for the finals after what he saw from their first outing.
“We have the team to do it,” he said.
